25) Why do I keep getting mid-qual / non-qual fees?

A: Mid-qual fees are assessed for keying cards on merchant accounts that are expecting card swipe data. This downgrade is passed on to you from the card associations.

Non-qual fees are assessed for multiple reasons:

    • AVS must be run for keyed transactions.
    • All transactions are batched within 24 hours.

Corporate, rewards, or frequent flyer mileage credit cards usually pass the cost of these rewards programs on to the merchant as a non-qual fee.

To help reduce fees, please be sure to batch your transactions within 24 hours, and that AVS is turned on for non-swiped or keyed transactions.
